Orthodontics
Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry that concentrates on the alignment of teeth. Focussing on the diagnosis and treatment of dental problems including crowded, crooked and protruding teeth, along with problems with jaw alignment, orthodontics uses braces and aligners to gently move your teeth into a better position. At Amsel & Wilkins we offer a wide range of orthodontic treatment to adults and children.
Problems with tooth alignment can cause you to be embarrassed about your smile, and can also cause problems with how you bite and chew food, in some cases restricting what you can eat and impacting on general health and wellbeing. Crooked, crowded and poorly aligned teeth can also be difficult to clean properly, which can lead to a build-up of plaque and further dental health problems.
Piers Neville has a special interest in orthodontics. Many people, when they hear the word "orthodontics", think of the traditional metal wire and bracket braces worn by many teenagers and young adults in the past. However, orthodontic treatment has advanced greatly in recent years, and the desire for straighter teeth no longer means the need to wear obvious metal braces for upwards of two years.
Modern orthodontic treatment is much quicker and more comfortable than it was in the past, and depending on the type and amount of correction needed, there are several discreet braces and aligners available.
When you visit us for orthodontic treatment, you can rest assured you are in safe and capable hands. You will be treated by a caring and approachable team of skilled professionals, and will be given a thorough orthodontic assessment. Any proposed treatment will be explained to you in full and you'll have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have before you start your treatment.
One of the most popular discreet orthodontic solutions is Invisalign invisible aligners, which Piers is accredited to prescribe, Nigel is an accredited prescriber for Invisalign Go
There is no age limit to having orthodontic care. Adults who are unhappy with the arrangement of their teeth are having them straightened this way, as it offers dramatic improvements without any drilling required. One of our own dentists has recently undergone such treatment, having had conventional removable braces as a teenager that failed to really straighten his teeth.
